Andrew Martin’s first Jim Stringer novel is based on the line. I’d recommend it.

Freeman Wills Croft was a writer of murder mysteries between the wars. He had a railway background and several of his novels have a railway theme as the structure on which the story is hung. Given his background, the railway information is very good and detailed. I know that they are available as eBooks, and the friend who introduced me to them says that hard copies are available fairly easily. And yet more railway detective novels to stop you completing your layout...(it worked for me)
The Inspector Vignoles series by Stephen Done set on the Great Central just after WW2.
I found reading "This Transient Life" describing an out of control virus genuinely quite scary after being in Covid lockdown.
There are also of course the venerable Edward Marston railway detective books, but I personally don't find them as interesting.
Anyone know any other railway novels?
