Does anyone know what colour livery was applied to british rail road maintenance vehicles pre 1966 yellow livery, especially the bedford tk crew buses . am i right in thinking that western region vehicles were a sand colour ?

According to the book I have here "Railway Owned Commercial Vehicles" B.R. vehicles changed in '61 to all over stone colour, lettered Rail Freight in white and the "flying crate" logo in brown and white.

Thanks for the replies

The crew buses were green prior to the yellow:)

Yes i read about the green livery being used for the south western region road vehicles i have seen the models of the bmc fg crew bus in green .

Thanks for the heads up, the article i read on the net stated that the western region used the colour stone. Do you have a colour image of the stone livery .is it like the gwr light stone colour /or wessie desert sand ?

the reason im digging for colour liveries is that im about to have a bash at making a bedford tk crew bus in 7mm scale using an old donor dinky model the era will be early 60s.

I can just make out the vehicles at the top of the bank seem like they have yellow panels on them . Been looking through the threads on the other side lots of pages! and came across the image of d6314 in that strange blue syp livery on a breakdown crane working, with a j2/j4? green mini bus in the forefront also images of yellow road vehicles pre 66 so now im really confussed.com

The green livery was applied to BR engineering/PW vehicles from 1961-66, before opting for the yellow. The parcels side went to yellow from the maroon and cream livery, hope this is of help.

The D63xx is D6303.

I hope you will post your conversion on here .......I fancy one of those Bedford HA vans from Oxford Diecast in BR yellow ;) http://www.oxforddiecast.co.uk/HA011 British Rail.htm

yep i can see that little bedford HA parked up at Withercombe .
i was going to make up a horse box body for the tk but a mobile workshop/crewbus body would be of more intrest.

Looks great so far  :)

I'm guessing it started life as a dustbin lorry ? ........I think I had one of those when I was a lad :D

Yep the donor vehicle is the dinky bin wagon from the 70s . when i was a kid i had the red coal lorry made in the 60s . these playworn dinky toys can be got for a couple of pounds on the bay, one has to just make sure that the tyres and glazing are intact .

TBH this model is a freelance version . as the box is a bit short and would be more likley to have been fitted to a latter type dodge or leyland terrier chassis cab . i got the idea for this project from looking at the 7mm gjh plant site

i have also been looking at the road rail Bruff bedford units now that would make a nice project fitted with a tenshodo spud motor unit

I think you've done a good job on that.

I've got a Corgi 1:50 scale Bedford that I got to do a similar conversion too. Rather than do British Rail I intend to do Roadline.
