I was in Romsey recently and intrigued by these chimney pots. Presumably they are copper rather than lead judging by the colour apart from which, I imagine lead could well distort or melt if it got too warm. I can't say I have noticed this type of material being used for pots before.

Could be galvanised.

looks very like copper to me, it's a very distinctive colour.

Is the extension to the right also copper but painted, or is it copper-coloured paint peeling off?

I have a vague recollection of seeing lead in similar application, I'd be surprised if it would melt (327C) unless there were a chimney fire.

galv will be silver weathering to grey, and then rust...

The right colour for weathered copper. Looking at what can be seen of the rest of the house, maybe Arts & Crafts — when a lot of copper was used. A quick search on the internet finds companies currently making vintage look copper chimney pots. They must be copper.
