Yes the feather would only be lite when the proceed aspect is lite. The white (orange) wire off the feather has a resistor attached.

as I do not think you would want the feather illuminated when the aspect is red, you might want to feed the switch from the respective yellow or green rather than the +12v.

Being pedantic the feather will actually illuminate before a proceed aspect changes so you do actually get a red with the feather, though this is momentarily. This has led to some interesting pictures taken at precisely the right moment showing a Red & the feather. There used to be such an image in part of the NR Rule book (or it may have been some other training I did!), its been a while since I did mine so it may well have been removed.

Dave,

thanks. I did mean “something like that”, but you’ve taken a step that I hadn’t seen, in using a change over to select the feather from green or yellow aspect.

I had imagined using a double wafer switch so you could select colour with or without feather.

thx

I hadn't thought of a double wafer switch which would be neater.

The other alternative for each signal is a bank of 5 interlocking latching switches where only one switch can be on at a time. i.e. those found on old FM/AM/LW/SW radios for waveband selection.

This would work with a separate on-off switch for the feather

you would wire this r, y, g, on one pole, and x, f, f, on the other, and the separate switch would turn the feather on in the “f” positions. The separate switch could be a microswitch on the point tie-bar

This would work without the extra switch

you could wire this g&f, y&f, r, y, g, fully manual. Turn one way for “with feather” and the other way without.

obviously need to duplicate this for two signals!

Not much work done on the layout of late, only little bit and bobs of progress. My class 60s should be back next month so I’m really looking forward to those returning.

Oh, nearly forgot I’ve remodelled the off scene area to allow better flexibility and added an extra foot of scenic area.
A few snaps of the little progress there’s been.5BD158D0-7586-4BE4-BAF2-B1CFE2E3B5E0.jpeg

I’ve also remodelled the storage area which now allows through running on and off the “Gear Branch”, I did want to do the sand to the ”Machen Branch” but the curves off the mainline would of been way to sharpe so it will remain a dead end siding in effect.

Right is the Gear Branch now a through road, middle road is the mainline and left is the long siding Machen branch.

Always use Vin for plates these days, very helpful even if what you need isn't on his site. He does the double arrows with etched bolt holes too which look nice. I think I have a couple of loco's with them on.

Yes, definitely he’ll be first port of call from now on.

60029 waits the road down to Ebbw Junction with a loaded steel sector service, meanwhile 08955 shunts a Speedlink service in Monbank spur.

Speedlink VEA vans with some dirt and grim on now, and with their former Railfreight branding painted out.

Railfreight brakevan started out with a plan to apply some additional transfers, but turned into a full repaint. Faded red, and Railfreight grey with distribution sector brands.

Still some tiding up to do.

08955 now has its numbers, only been 18 months!

Update the next day….
I’ve decided to stripe completely, and rebuild / spray my turbots (EWS colours) before trying the Transrail repaint. Because quite frankly they looked crap before !

I’ve paint striped the turobots, primed and resprayed them now with much better results.
I need to spray the decks, and inner sides before I varnish them and transfer though.3C20B7CF-A1BE-4B50-91F4-8AF341AEBFCB.jpeg
