The wonderful 5 inch model railway at Gilling doesn't appear to have been mentioned here for a dozen years. See MRJ236 and Those Wagons

Anyway the magnificient weather yesterday took us up to Gilling for 6 hours of pure railway pleasure, Wagoning like it used to be! Lots of photos were taken by others, but my selection are at the beginning of Gilling Mainline Rally 5inch gauge model railway

All to be repeated at August Bank Holiday, but perhaps the weather in our wettest month won't be so kind.

Beware, this is in the Howardian hills so even on a day like Saturday a fleece was useful but if you have any interest in models this is an unmissable spectacle in an absolutely superb setting. No charge, refreshments available.

Crane 347 paired correctly with DW107117, but not in the bright yellow I photographed them in!

No doubt Crane 347 works just like the real thing?
For some reason they didn't take the raft of three cranes out on the mainline and I was fortunate to be nearby when a member wanted to show a friend two of the cranes. Very few visitors will have seen them. I don't think they worked - from a comment overheard.

PS Co-incidentally these 0-8-0s on the WR are one of the more popular photos on my site and there have been descriptions on RMWeb of rebuilds of the Airfix kit (which has bogies and is unlike anything operated on BR) to resemble these cranes. The kit superstructure is very similar. The grey livery of the model does resemble liveries on some of my photos of the same batch of cranes.
