Thanks all for the reply's.

Just to clarify the primer lifted from the body. I've now managed to remove most of the primer/paint with a strip of masking tape.



The model was stripped to bare metal for both attempts, cleaned and 'polished' with a mini drill wire wheel. I will give scotchbrite a go.
'Polished' , there's ya problem . Scuff it up with a fine scotchbrite pad and it should be good .

Another good cleaner, as recommended by Ian Rathbone in fact, is Barkeeper's Friend (though I use the cream, not the powder), similar to Cif but amongst other things without the fragrance of Cif!
