Be aware that if incoming goods are intercepted by RM from their partners and sent to HWDC Langley for processing, there is a real chance that HMRC do not issue any message (email or snail) requiring payment. Moreover the recipient of the item has just three-working days to make a payment. HWDC Langley has no accountability nor can be contacted if only to enquire whether goods are being held pending receipt of payment.
I recently purchased an item from eBay.de, it was tracked until it reached HWDC Langley and then nothing for ten days until I noticed that on the RM tracking, it was marked as ‘OVERSEAS’ with the additional marker of Denmark.
At this point it had reached the date that eBay will actually do something, their response was to deny a refund as it was my responsibility to pay HMRC, they assumed that I had received a demand from HMRC, luckily in my attempts to find my goods, I had contacted NPSU who handle ‘seized’ goods and their response was that no goods addressed to me using both the original and RM tracking codes had been seized nor had any demand for payment been issued. I scanned the email from NPSU and sent it with my appeal to eBay and a full refund was actioned.
The bottom line, if your goods enter HWDC Langley you may not receive a demand for payment, they will be returned to the sender and eBay will ignore its own guidelines.
I now buy only from MSL and not eBay.de, as MSL use FED-EX, the company have their own interface with HMRC and will immediately inform and demand/receive payment via the email supplied to MSL and will release the goods with 12hrs.
