Hi CME those are nice images of your families garden line i messed about with a mamod sl1 set i upgraded the burner from solid fuel to a three wick meth burner and fitted a higher pressure safety valve the result was that the loco flew along and toppled over when it tried to take the bend :shock: i think i should have upgraded the regulator as well. is the diesel shunter battery powered or does it pick up current from the track

Yes Mamods - unless lucky with a good 'un - require quite a bit of work to get them to run well, almost better to start of with a Roundhouse loco, such as a Katie, more cost effective - and less frustrating - in the long run :lol:

The diesel - a Roundhouse Criccieth Castle - is battery powered R/C with sound - makes life easier with the track and kettles leaving muck all over the place :lol: :lol: We have fettled it a little, yet it still requires some more cosmetic work.

I did once get caught getting over the fence at Westwick Lodge Works - got into a bit of trouble for that and yet my punishment was to help in kettle disposal and cleaning out boiler tubes etc. :lol: :lol: :lol: It helps being only 6" tall you see :lol: :lol:

Yes I see what you are saying, and altough I didnt really spot, we did used to get as close as possible to the tracks, there were more level crossings then too, so we took some risks trackside I think that, years later, when I at least got PTS qualified, and trackside when things like Tampers sneak up on you it really makes you stop and think, yet as a kid you're fearless - or were we just stupid? :lol: :lol:

I was lucky enough to go to Swindon open days so that gave me all I needed In addition dad would take me to Salisbury and Bournemouth etc. that's where I got my love of '33's
