Concur. A charcoal grey would look quite natural from normal viewing distance, given the paling effect distance has on tone.

Sorry Cmax but it may be better to say:- It’s instantly recognisable as the Midland Railway as it's not the S&C but further down towards Leeds.

Sorry Dave F, I was sure I'd read that it was based on Armathaite on the S&C, then re-read your intro where you do say the location was moved, Northwest of Leeds, so yes it's Instantly recognisable as the Midland Railway and it's still superb.

An absolute delight. Looking forward to seeing (and operating) it in a couple of weeks. I'm sure it'll go down well and the part-finished bits will be forgiven by the audience. It is billed as work-in-progress after all, though I understand Dave's desire to get it as close to finished as possible.
I still love that viaduct. Who needs trains?

That's good to know. I'm planning on building a layout about that size of Millers Dale. What is the minimum radius on the layout as I am planning to build it in EM gauge with maximum length of the coaching stock being about 60ft.

I was delighted to finally see wharfside yesterday at model rail Scotland and what a splendid layout it is too. Looks great and it runs sublimely!

much inspiration gained, thanks very much!George, delighted you enjoyed Dave's trainset, with a ( very) inexperienced operating crew inside the layout in the photos. some of us where on the public side from time to time, and hopefully you may have spoken to one of them.
Anyway, a few photos from the final day...
The trackbed is horizontal. However, from the operating well, the impression as the train emerges from the cutting, with the drystone dyke bisecting the engine at an angle as it heads into the station is that it is going uphill. Unfortunately, not really captured at all by a phone camera on this occasion!
And for the final 1/2 hour.....something we've possibly adopted......

Lovely photos guys, Yes, I think we all enjoyed the weekend, some of us thought Wharfeside was so much easier than Alloa to exhibit especially the setup and breakdown. The guys learned the layout quite quickly being the first time out so I could spend a bit of time outside talking to punters and friends.
An old friend asked us to test out the Pacer after finding it in the attic after twenty years. it ran very well too and he walked away saying 'just keep it'.... I did try and give it back but he wouldn't have it so I'll maybe donate it somewhere.
All in all a good weekend.
